For the month of April, Our Sister’s Keeper Coalition offers a list of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) Events. This is an important time for Our Sister’s Keeper Coalition to create an awareness.

Teal Ribbon Campaign
By wearing a Teal-Ribbon, is your way of telling the world that Sexual Violence happens, that you know it affects everyone, and that you take responsibility for playing your part in preventing sexual violence from continuing to happen. Our Sister’s Keeper will hand out free Teal Ribbons at the following locations:
April 13th, 2010 - Fort Lewis College - from 10 am to 2 pm.
Native American Candlelight Vigil:
It is estimated the 98% of Native American will be sexually assaulted during their lifetime. A candlelight vigil is held to remember those who have been victims. It is hoped that by holding a candlelight vigil, participants will create awareness by shining a light onto Sexual Violence which is often kept hidden. We request your attendance to one or all of the Candlelight Vigils.

- Monday, April 22, 2010 - Ute Mountain Ute Community Center, Towaoc, CO.
2nd Annual Southwest Native American Prevention Summit
Our Sister’s Keeper will host a Southwest Native American Prevention Summit. All members of the community and service providers are invited to attend this Native American prevention summit.

- Saturday, April 3rd, 2010, San Juan College Pow Wow-Farmington, NM- A booth will be in place.
- Friday, April 9th, 2010, Native American Calling, Albuquerque, NM - On Sexual Assault Prevention on Native Lands.
- Monday, April 19, 2010, OSKC will give a presentation on Sexual Assault at Fort Lewis College with Professor Jennifer Starks.
- Wednesday, April 21st, 2010, OSKC and Sexual Assault Services Organization (SASO) will host a training for SAAM. Keynote Speaker: Shannon Cook, Cherokee and founder of INCITE, will present on Oppression and Sexual Assault.
- Thursday, April 22nd, 2010, Gathering of Nations- Albuquerque, NM- A booth will be in place.
- For the month of April, KSUT Radio Host, Tyson Sampson, will have a guest every week on the Southern Ute Tribal radio, KSUT, to talk about Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Mr. Sampson is on every Mondays from 12-2 pm.
